JACK EBERHARD'S BLOG (Jan. 30, 2009) -- My name is Jack Eberhard. I am the official photographer for SSUSA (Senior Softball USA). I have been their official photographer for the past 4+ years. SSUSA is the largest senior softball association in the United States. I have been published in several magazines and newspapers such as Softball Magazine and Softball Today Magazine. I even shot a cover for Masters Athlete back when it was known as GeezerJock. One of the things I like about my position with SSUSA unique is that I get to meet teams from all over the U.S. . . . keep reading...>>

Chargers almost win Villages softball title for fallen teammate
By Sean Callahan
The Chattanooga Chargers almost didn't make the third annual Villages Masters Athlete Softball Championships, which were held Oct. 24-26 in The Villages, Fla., an active adult community of 70,000 in central Florida. The Chargers, who hail from Tennessee and played in the 60+ women's division, lost teammate Ann "Pineapple" Lusk a few days before the tournament. The 69-year-old died several days after having an aneurysm. "We almost didn't come," said the Chargers' Billie Dempsey. The team debated not traveling to the championships, but Lusk, during some of the good moments she had after the aneurysm but before taking a turn for the worse, told her teammates, "Win for me. Y'all go on," according to Inez Hartline, a member of the Chargers. . . . keep reading...>>

"I just watch the ball hit the bat," Sandy said. "It's all pitch selection. I just want something I can get up in the air." . . . keep reading...>>

World Senior Softball Championships provide plenty of drama
At the 2008 ISSA World Senior Softball Championships, which were held in Manassas, Va., in August, no division provided more drama than the 60 Major bracket. In the finals in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Joseph Chevrolet was clinging to a 19-18 lead, and Monkey Joe's was threatening with one out. . . . keep reading...>>

The Villages Masters Athlete Softball Championships return in October...
By Meghan Deerin
The Villages Masters Athlete Softball Championships return to The Villages, Fla., on Oct. 24-26 later this year. It will be the third installment of the national tournament. Just like the spread of softball in The Villages, the tournament has expanded each year. In 2006, 12 teams and two divisions -- a women's 50+ and a men's 50+ -- participated in the Championships. Last year, the number of teams increased to 24 with the addition of 60+ men's and women's divisions. This year, the organizers expect 32 teams with the addition of 70+ brackets for men and women's divisions. While 40 percent of the teams participating in the tournament hail from The Villages, a city that sprawls over three Florida counties, teams from across the United States and Canada come to play, and fans turn out in droves to watch them. Last year, hundreds of spectators packed the bleachers for the tournament. . . . keep reading...>>
