"Come on!"
I'm almost 56 and like cycling. I do about 1,500 miles a year and compete on a triathlon team as the cycling leg. I read with interest about David Goetzinger in the March/April issue ["Michelob Ultra GeezerJock of the Y ear Nominees"]. The blurb on him says he rode 27,000 miles last year in Iowa. I did some math: if he rode 365 days a year (very unlikely in the Iowa winters), he averaged nearly 74 miles a day. Come on! He may be retired, but does he live on his bike 24/7?

Editor's note: Due to an idiotic editing error, Mr. Goetzinger's mileage was inflated. He actually said he rode more than 22,000 miles in 2006, which would translate to about 60 miles or three to four hours of riding per day.

10-year age groups?

In the August/ September 2006 issue of your magazine there was an article on "Old age is a disease of inactivity." The article talks about the decline in performance as athletes age. In the same issue, it was reported that a 61-year-old triathlete won the 60-64 age group. USA Triathlon has five-year age groups. My question is, why would GeezerJock have 10-year age groups for GeezerJock of the Year?

Thanks for your article about prostate cancer in your January/February 2007 issue ["Help for the sixth man"]. About
two years ago, I became painfully aware that I may have the condition if I didn't do something about it. Since then, I have taken daily medication and have semi-annual doctor visits to monitor the situation. The
National Prostate Cancer Coalition web site at npcc@fightprostatecancer.org is an excellent source of information. September is Prostate Cancer Month and Blue is the color, so encourage everyone to "Go Blue" during the month.

Ruben and Fybromyalgia
I was pleased to see Ruben Gonzalez's picture on the cover of GeezerJock magazine's December 2006 cover
recognizing his accomplishment of being named 2006 Michelob Ultra GeezerJock of the Year. What isn't widely known is that Ruben wears the pink and crimson band on his wrist (clearly seen on the cover of GeezerJock) to support the 6 million to 10 million Americans who suffer with fibromyalgia, an illness defined by debilitating, body-wide pain with no known cause, fatigue and non-restorative sleep. In 1992, I founded the National Fibromyalgia Research Association to raise awareness, educate medical professionals and advocate for and fund research to seek treatments and a cure for fibromyalgia.
