Encouragement for the editor-triathlete

Nice going on your first triathlon, Sean ["Can he keep up?" GeezerJock, June/July 2006]. We all have a first one. You're lucky that yours came early in life. Nine years ago, at 61, I started in this sport. Better late than never. I figure I have another 20 to 25 years being a triathlete. Keep it up, kid! See you at the races.

Thank you for your perfect editorial on your triathlon effort ["Can he keep up?" GeezerJock, June/July 2006]. I am 60 and the mother of Gordo Byrn, winner of the Ultraman 2002 World Triathlon Event. I took up the sport several years ago buoyed up by the high spirits of Sister Madonna Buder, age 76, who is an Ironman Canada race pal of Gordon's. To make a long story short I ended up on the podium last March at the UBC Triathlon simply because only two athletes in the 60-64 age group could cope with the fierce weather conditions leading up to the event. I began the sport as a joke. I am now a sponsored athlete and member of Team Vega. I wish you as much joy and passion as I have for the sport and many good times with all of the wonderful athletes you will meet on the course and off. Onward!

More softball coverage needed

I subscribed to your magazine last summer after seeing your Web site posted on the ISSA (Senior Softball) Web site. Since that time, I expected to read at least one article on senior softball. I'll hold out for a few more issues, but if no senior softball, your magazine is not for me.

More badminton coverage needed

We enjoy the magazine but find it interesting that we haven't read anything about senior badminton. Badminton is the most popular sport in the world, second only to soccer. Badminton gives its players twice the exercise of tennis. The birdie can come off the racket at 200 mph. In the National Senior Games, badminton is just one of the sports enjoyed by large numbers of men and women. Reading your pickleball article ["Sweet Pickleball," GeezerJock, April/May 2006] is what made me think about not having read any articles on badminton.

More basketball coverage needed

It was nice to finally see coverage of the Men's Masters Basketball National Championships ["Oakland's Finest lives up to its name," GeezerJock, June/July 2006]. There were two more brackets you failed to mention, 65-69 and 70-plus. Some of us have been playing Masters basketball for 10 to 20 years.
