Women 50-59: GeezerJock of the Year Nominees

The following women are nominated for the 2006 Michelob ULTRA GeezerJock of the Year Award in the Women 50-59 category:

Sarah Gaines
Pickleball/St. George, Utah

   Gaines
Gaines won three pickleball gold medals at the Huntsman World Senior Games in October. She won the women’s 50-54 pickleball singles tournament. With partner Ginger Miller, who is also from St. George, Gaines triumphed in the women’s 50-54 doubles. And with partner Bill Dysert, another St. George resident, she won gold in the 50-54 mixed doubles.

Anne Guerrant
Tennis/Gilbert, Ariz.

   Guerrant
Guerrant is currently the No. 1-ranked women’s 55-59 player in the United States. She won the National Clay Court Championships in Houston in March. “I like clay and grass,” Guerrant said. “I’m probably better on grass, but I like clay and grass, because they don’t beat up my body like hard courts.” Guerrant played professional tennis. Her highest ranking was No. 11 in 1976.

Bonnie Stoeckl
Duathlon/Pequea, Pa.


   Stoeckl
In 2005 Stoeckl was the overall champion of USA Triathlon’s Mid-Atlantic Duathlon Gran Prix, a seven-race series. In 2002, she was the Road Runners Clubs of America’s national champion in the 10k in the 45-49 bracket, and in 2001, she was the national cyclocross champion in the 45-plus age group. Stoeckl is also an avid rock and ice climber and has taken up triathlon despite her avowed aversion to water.
