Racquetball: Double winners
Top performers at the NMRA National Championships Of the 259 men and women who competed at the National Masters Racquetball Association National Championships, which were held in Canoga Park, Calif., in March, a handful of players triumphed in both singles and doubles. Ron Adams of California may have turned in the tournament’s most impressive performance. He not only won the men’s singles in the 65-plus bracket, he also won the doubles tournament in a younger age bracket – 60- plus – with partner R.O. Carson, also from California. Ken Stone of California also won singles and doubles in the men’s 45- plus bracket. His doubles partner was fellow Californian Gene Pare. Paul Banales of Arizona won the men’s singles and doubles in the 70-plus bracket. His doubles partner was Tom Penick of California. And Victor Sacco of New York won the men’s singles and doubles in the 80- plus bracket. His doubles partner was Ivan Gruner of Wisconsin. In the women’s draw, Vicki Panzeri of Washington won the women’s singles and doubles in the 50-plus bracket. Her doubles partner was Leslie Pawka of California. Pawka also won the 50-plus mixed doubles tournament with Mike Pawka. In the women’s 60-plus bracket, Sharon Hastings-Welty of Oregon won the singles and mixed doubles. Her doubles partner was Lee Graff, also of Oregon.
